Veil Transfer is a perfect blend of fun and scary.
Veil Transfer is maybe my favorite game I've played so far for this blog, of all 13 games played I definitely had the most fun with this one. Everything from the text-to-speech analog horror tutorial videos to the gritty manhunt-esque visuals was great. This game is dark and disturbing as you take the role of the judge, jury, and executioner and decide who lives and who dies in this FNAF-like job-sim, although I prefer Veil Transfer to any FNAF game, personally.
You begin with a TTS voice filling you in on your situation: you are a NVTP enforcer who's job is to snuff out Veils and kill them via interviewing prisoners. Veils are skinwalkers that threaten humanity by blending in and your job is to find the Veils in a lineup of prisoners using a few different methods and deducing based on the information. There is also two more mechanics which is what made me label it a "FNAF-like": vents and power. There are 3 vents located behind you that Veils can crawl around in and you must turn on the respective fan to flush out the Veil before it makes it's way out and kills you. You have to reset power whenever one of your machines fails, for me only sound caused it to happen. Randomly, a biblically-accurate angel will appear too, don't look at it.
I had a lot of fun in the gameplay loop, shooting skinwalkers to death was satisfying and so was figuring out which ones were which. I think that the info you downloaded for the prisoners previous diagnosis could've been explained better, as sometimes it will say they have anxiety, which means they will always react to noise, then they didn't react to noise so that meant they're automatically a Veil no more questions needed? I think so. Also the Angels were appearing a lot for me on just the 1st day, I think I saw like 5 or something. Overall, the game felt pretty fair though but definitely not too easy; skill-based.
I didn't even mention the upgrades, does that make this game a roguelite?
My favorite part of my play-through, though, might've been the graphics. Since I'm a sucker for anything that resembles Silent Hill 1 graphics this game gets an automatic A+ from me. The gritty, dirty textures of the prisoner room behind the curtain were a highlight. The whole thing kinda reminded me of Manhunt in a way.
