"PAGER: an atmospheric game of Simon Says"
Although just a demo, this 15-20 minute experience had more style than a lot of games with 10 times the length (and budget). What Bilge manages to create in this short taste of PAGER is an immersive and nostalgic climb up a non-Euclidean, dreamlike office building, all guided by—you guessed it—a pager. This demo does a great job previewing a pretty polished and fun game and makes full use of the time it has to do so.
Graphically, the game looks like it would run on something like a pager, with 1-bit black-and-white shaders that pull you right into its horrifyingly ethereal world. PAGER is scary in the same way something like a liminal space is—the scares come from the unknown and unexplainable nature of the deceptively comforting environment. A highlight of the floors for me was definitely the 4th(?) floor, where you are tasked with bringing a coffee to a room via a hallway that wraps around a massive spiraling staircase with a person walking on it.
I had a great time with this demo; I really can't recommend wish-listing the full game enough! Definitely give the demo a shot too, if you haven't already, for some reason. Like, it literally runs in your browser. Go play it!!!
