Ignited Entry is a uniquely cinematic horror experience.
The tragedy of this review is that I have only a single day to write it. This game absolutely blew me away with it's over-the-top cinematic cut-scenes, high quality voice-acting, great story telling, and heart-stopping scares. It barely felt like an indie game because of how professionally executed the game design felt here and when I made it to the credits and saw it was entirely made by JordiBoi I was astounded.
Breaking in to the actual game, I would say the gameplay-to-cutscene ratio is almost 50:50, which makes this game feel like a movie, and some of the scary parts really feel like you're in a haunted house. The story is solid, without spoiling it you are a fireman with a guilty past relating to a specific fire that killed a family and when you revisit the house with your brother(voiced by tuv, which caught me off guard) you stumble into a latch that brings you in to the "Aftergrave", a realm beyond the mortal one where you face your past and learn more about the tragedy from all those years ago.
Moving through each different section, first you go through the son Jason's Aftergrave where you explore the family's house and have to play him in pong and if you don't you're greeted with the worst jump-scare of your life. Next you explore Emily's Aftergrave where you have to unlock her diary to learn more about the tragic event. The part in here when you're being hunted by Emily in the diary was easily the scariest part of the entire game for me and also my favorite. Then you're called by an unknown man who tells you to come to the "visitor center", and this also a good time to mention the best character, Steve, he's great, everything from his voice acting to his billboard-model and funny dialogue, it's all perfect. Steve acts as your guide through the Aftergrave and explains how you ended up here in the first act.
The graphic in this game are really top-notch for PSX-style indie-horror with so many ridiculously detailed and intricate levels that were somehow all made by one guy. The music in the game is nice and does a great job filling out the atmosphere and setting the tone, even if it was probably my least favorite part of the entire experience as the old-timey stuff felt a little over-used, but it was still fine. Play this game and support JordiBoi right now.
