"Egg Fried Rice" by Grainwood Games //Day 2

Egg Fried Rice is as classic as PSX indie-horror gets.

Right off the bat, after, I'd say the first minute of this game, you know exactly what you're going to get: a straight to the point horror experience with those beautiful PSX graphics. From the same author as "Boil Noodles at Night", you can probably expect a pretty similar experience, and for the most part you'd be right. As someone who enjoyed that game, that isn't bad news for me, at least.

The dialogue is pretty funny at times, illustrating how the game doesn't take itself serious all the time. The gameplay feels pretty good but everything felt slightly too slow, which, spoiler alert for post-game content, is kind of acknowledged by the creator by giving you a speed boost. Speaking of movement, the car actually controls pretty well compared to how infamously bad cars feel in these games.

I was a big fan of specifically the texturing in this game, it makes the relatively small world feel much bigger with the intricate detailing of the different shops and buildings in the downtown section as well as in your character's house. By far the best looking spot in the entire game though, fittingly, is the Chinese restaurant, the wonderful texturing combined with all of the props makes it look great. But I might say, even though I'm a fan of that original PS1 look, I still much preferred changing the graphics settings by removing the 30fps limit and turning off the filtering effects.

Overall, for a 20 minute game I think you get a nice, fun, and most importantly, scary package for completely free, and you won't see me complaining.
